Can Georgia Get Rid of the Death Penalty? By: Laurisa Guillame, Clark Atlanta University

On February 11, 2020 the change agents were given the opportunity to attend a Lobbying Day at the Georgia State Capitol in conjunction with the NAACP.

We assembled in the Paul D. Coverdell Legislative Office Building. James Woodall, the Georgia State President for the NAACP, introduced himself and went over the agenda for the day. State representatives would be coming in to tell us about the legislation that they were working on getting passed followed by time for us to ask them any questions.

My particular favorite was Representative Brett Harrell who is working on repealing the death penalty in Georgia.  This was an interesting topic because I want to see it happen but based on what Rep. Harrell said, it is a long road to get Republicans to agree.

Do you think the death penalty is should stay in place or be removed?
