Lobby Day with Georgia NAACP was an interesting and resourceful event. The NAACP invited different state representatives to talk about the bills they were pushing for or against and how they would impact our communities.
One of the topics that stood out the most surrounded the death penalty. House representative Brett Harrell admitted that in order to get Republicans to agree to vote for banning the death penalty, he needs to be strategic about it. Though moral arguments surrounding ethics and racial disparity all make valid arguments, he must appeal to a specific target: the financially conservative and those in favor of a small government involvement.
What do you think- what will it take to get bipartisan support on eliminating the death penalty in Georgia or any other state?
