In Honor of National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day to continuing the work of Evelyn Lowery, an educator and social justice leader. This is a blog in the Sexual Health Q & A Series

As a college student living away from home, I understand it can sometimes be difficult to find resources in a new city. However it is highly encouraged that you get tested on a regular basis. In fact, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that most sexually active adults should be tested yearly for STD’s. The Wellness Centers on Spelman and Clark Atlanta’s campuses do offer STD testing as well as many other services. There are also plenty of places off campus to get tested, such as the Center for Black Womens Wellness Incorporated and Aniz Incorporated, which both offer free HIV testing.

Morehouse students can go to the health center to receive free STI and HIV testing!

This blog reminds me of the importance of having these discussions and encouraging students to get regularly tested.

Thank you so much, I think the individual colleges should do a better job of advertising these services to all students.

  • Quin Abrams says:

I believe this is a very important topic because many students have no idea where they are able to be tested. Many student are also unaware of how regularly they should be tested, this is very encouraging.
